Mosquito-Borne Illness in the Virgin Islands
The Aedes mosquitoes that spread dengue live year-round in the Virgin Islands. Between January 2024 and June 2025, the USVI had its first dengue outbreak in about 10 years, with 263 confirmed cases territory-wide, including 105 on St. Thomas and 40 on St. John. Nearly all were caught locally (CDC, Oct 2026). The VI Department of Health confirmed 47 more cases in 2025 (2025 annual report). No 2026 USVI cases have been reported to the CDC yet, though territory reporting runs behind.
Dengue is still spreading heavily in nearby Puerto Rico, which has reported 929 cases so far in 2026, nearly all of them caught locally (CDC dengue data, as of Oct 14, 2026).
Reducing mosquitoes around your home is one of the simplest ways to lower your risk. Mosquito Magnet® traps do that without spraying pesticides.
